Addis Ababa, May 30, 2017 (FBC) –Chief Administrator of Oromia Regional State, Lemma Megerssa, along with senior local
officials, inaugurated today the Koka-Adama safe drinking water expansion project.

The water plant, upgraded at a cost of 342 million birr, has the capacity to supply 43,000 cubic meters of water for over
500,000 dwellers of Adama town and its environs.
The Koka-Adama safe drinking water plant was built 20 years ago with the capacity to supply only 24,000 cubic meters of
water for 250,000 people
The expansion project, whose construction done in three year time, was therefore needed to fill the supply gap created as a
result of population increase in the town.
At present, more than half a million people are estimated to live in Adama town and its surroundings.
The expansion project inaugurated today meets 95 percent of the potable water demands of Adama and its surrounding
towns, such as Wonji and Sirero, it was noted.
The Chief Administrator also inaugurated a 15.5km asphalt road built to avoid traffic congestion in Adama town.
